We’re offering this very pretty Nixon-era Ithaca 49 Single Shot. Barrel measures 16 3/4 inches, and the buttstock length of pull measures 13 1/2 inches. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Walnut is a nice original satin finish blond coloration, with minimal scouring showing. Permanent sling swivels are period correct, and their white spacers show no age wear. We rate this M-49 as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. There are small grayed streaks on the barrel / front sight band, and small grayed receiver scours on some of that area’s sharp edges. This little Ithaca comes to us from a good home in Knox County Tennessee, and its surface wear is minimal. The magazine tube is non-functional but esthetically pleasing, and this little rifle looks very similar to a miniature 1873 Winchester.

The 49 Saddle Gun was only cosmetically similar to its much pricier repeating counterparts manufactured first by Erma, then by Ithaca, and now by Henry Repeating Arms. Its walnut stock and forend are original, but they are early smooth glossy finished, not press-checkered like the 1970s variants. We don’t see the Magnums very often like this one, the first one we’ve had in a decade or so.
